Any modification by the laboratory to the Alere Determine™ HIV–1/2 Ag/Ab Combo test or the FDA approved Alere Determine™ HIV–1/2 Ag/Ab Combo test instructions will result in the test no longer meeting the requirements for waived category. A CLIA Certificate of Waiver is required to perform the test in a waived setting.
This HIV DUO test helps detect anti-HIV 1 and anti-HIV-2 total immunoglobulins plus HIV-1 p24 antigen. The advantage of testing for p24 is that this indicator of HIV infection can be detected earlier than with tests that only looked for HIV antibodies. This HIV DUO test, including p24 antigen, is considered 99.8 percent accurate at 28 days.
